Revealing God’s Kingdom 하느님 나라 드러내기

 

My name Kennedy and I’m glad to be here today speak to you. I’m always glad to see you here every Sunday. Actually the last time Ipreached was one year ago in Busan Cathedral to English teachers living in Busan and Ulsan. Thanks to Fr. Kim for this opportunity.

제 이름은 케네디입니다. 여러분들께 말씀을 전하게 되어 반갑습니다. 저는 매주일 여러분을 볼 때마다 반갑습니다. 사실 설교한지 일 년 만이네요. 전에 부산 대성당에서 부산과 울산에 사는 영어 선생님들 앞에서 설교한 게 마지막이었어요. 이런 기회를 마련해 주신 김장환 신부님께 감사 드려요.

 

The gospel of today reminds me of a story of the Prince who was usually sent by his father-the King to run his errands. As he did so, one day the prince passed through a very poor section of the town. Looking through the window of his carriage, he saw a beautiful young peasant girl walking along the street. He could not get her off his mind. So he continued to come to the town day after day just to see her and feel as he was near her. His heart yearned for the lady, but there was a problem, 'how could he develop a relationship with her?'

오늘 복음 말씀은 어느 왕자 이야기를 떠올리게 합니다. 그왕자는 아버지를 대신하여 대사 역할을 수행하곤 했습니다. 그러던 중그 왕자는 마을을 가장 가난한 지역을 지나게 되었습니다. 마차 창을 통하여 바라보니 거리에 어여쁜 농촌 처녀가 지나가는 것이 보였습니다. 한 번 보았지만 왕자는 그 모습을 떨쳐 버릴 수가 없었습니다. 왕자는 그 아가씨를 보고 싶어서 그 마을에 매일 나오게 되었습니다. 그아가씨를 그렇게 그리워하고 있었지만, ‘어떻게 하면 그아가씨와 가까워질 수있을까요?’

 

The Prince thought of what he could do to marry the peasant girl. So first thought that heshould order her to marry him. It was in his powers to do so, but he wanted this girl to love him from the heart, willingly.

그 농부 아가씨와 결혼하기 위하여 어떻게 결혼할 수 있을까 왕자는 생각했습니다. ‘나와 결혼하시오’라고 명령할까 생각해 보았습니다. 그렇게 할만한 힘을 가지고 있었지만, 그는 그 아가씨가 마음으로 기꺼이 자기를 사랑하기를 원했습니다.

Secondly, he thought could put on his royal garments and impressesher with his regal entourage, and drive up to her front door with soldiers and a carriage drawn by six horses. But the problems was thatif he did this he would never be certain that the girl loved him, or was simply overwhelmed by his power, position and wealth.

‘왕실의 화려한 옷을 입고, 왕궁 호위병들의 수행을 받으며, 그녀에게 좋은 인상을 심어 줄까?’ 아니면 ‘말 여섯 마리가 끄는 마차를 타고 병사들과 함께 그녀의 집 앞으로 행진할까?’ 생각을 해보았습니다. 하지만 그렇게 하면, 그녀가 단지 그의 힘과 지위와 부에 압도된 것인 것, 자기를 사랑하는 것인지 알 수가 없다는 문제가 생기게 됩니다.

 

The prince came up with another solution; he gave uphis kingly robes and symbols of power and

privilege. He moved in to the village dressed only as a peasant. He lived among the people, shared their interests and concerns, and talked their language and ate their food. He hungered and thirsted with them. With time the young peasant girl grew to know him, and then to love him.

그래서 왕자는 다른 방법을 생각해 냈습니다. 왕자의 화려한 옷과, 온갖 힘과 특권의 상징들을 내려 놓고, 평범한 농부의 차림으로 그 마을로 이사를 갔습니다. 사람들 사이에 살면서, 그들이 재미 있어 하는 것, 관심 있어 하는 것을 이야기하고, 그들의 언어를 사용하고, 그들과 함께 먹었습니다. 물론 때론 굶기도 했고 목마름을 느끼기도 했습니다. 시간이 지나면서, 그젊은 농부 아가씨는 그를 알게 되었고, 그를 사랑하게 되었습니다.

 

And that is exactly what we are reading from gospel of Mark today: The King of heaven(Jesus) put aside his heavenly robes and divine prerogatives. He came to us just as one of us. He lived among us; He could have forced us, He could have overwhelmed us, but he chose to live among us.

이 이야기는 정말 오늘 읽은 마르코 복음 말씀과 딱 어울리는 것같아요. 하늘의 임금이신 예수께서 하늘의 화려한 옷과 하느님의 특권을 물려 놓으시고, 우리들 가운데 오셔서 우리 가운데 한 사람이 되셨습니다. 그분은 우리와 함께 사셨습니다. 그분은 우리에게 명령할 수도 있었고, 우리를 압도할 수도 있었지만, 그분은 우리 가운데 오셔서 사시는 길을 택하셨습니다.

 

In thereading of today, Jesus announces the arrival of the Kingdom of God and then he invites th

ose who should participate in building that Kingdom. But by connecting with the fishermen by the sea of Galilee Jesus shows us the very nature of God’s character-a God who connects with people even when they are undertaking their daily routines.

오늘 본문에서 예수께서는 하느님 나라의 도래를 선포하시고, 이 나라를 세우는 데에 참여할 사람들을 초청하고 계십니다. 그런 중요한 일에 예수께서 갈릴리 바닷가의 어부들을 부르신 것은, 하느님의 성품을 보여 주신 것이라고 생각합니다. 하느님은 사람들을 통하여 일하시기 원하시며, 그 사람들이 일상적인 일들을 하는 가운데에 부르시는 분이십니다.

 

By inviting fishermen- people of low social status in the community to be his first disciples Jesusr

eveals that the kingdom of God ischaracterizedby grace and humility; God calls everyone to his Kingdom including ordinary people.

낮은 신분의 사람들인 어부들을 부르심으로써, 예수께서는 하느님 나라의 성격이 바로 은혜이며 겸손이라는 것을 나타내셨습니다. 하느님께서 당신 나라를 세우기 위하여 모든 사람들을 부르시며, 거기에는 보통 사람들이 포함되어 있습니다.

 

He calls ordinary people to his ministry

보통사람들을 부르셔서 일하시는 하느님

 

I am sure that in most communities fishing is not one of the best careers or professiospeople would like. None of us goes to school to train to become fisherman. But Jesus is calling just people like thatto be part his of ministry to preach the good news of salvation and hope. May be even these fishermen were caught by surprise when Jesus invited them to his ministry.

어부라는 직업이 가장 선망받는 업종인 사회는 별로 없으리라고 저는 생각합니다. 어부가 되기 위하여 어부 학교에 입학해서 훈련을 받는다는 말을 저는 들어본 적이 없습니다. 하지만 그런 사람들을 부르셔서 예수께서는 구원과 희망의 복된 소식을 전하는 일에 참여하게 하십니다. 이 어부들 스스로도 예수께서 이런 일에 자신들을 부르신다는 사실에 깜짝 놀랐으리라 생각합니다.

 

And that is the same way we some timesigh away from God because we think we do not have something special to serve him or to give to him.

이 어부들 같이 우리도 우리 자신에 대하여 한숨을 쉬며 하느님께로부터 비켜 서게 됩니다. ‘우리는 하느님을 섬길 특별한 것을 가지고 있지도 못하고, 그분께 드릴 특별한 것도 없습니다’라고 스스로 생각합니다.

 

But God is never interested in the special things we do not have. He is interestedin the ordinary people who have a special heart for him. When we still despise ourselvesGod looks at our hearts and he sees something special he can use in his ministry…………………………………………

그러나 하느님께서는 우리가 갖고 있지도 않은 그런 특별한 무언가에 대하여 관심이 없으십니다. 하느님께서 관심있게 여기시는 것은 바로 보통 사람들입니다. 하느님께 향한 특별한 가슴(심장)을 지닌 사람들을 원하십니다. 우리가 스스로를 업신여기고 있을 때에도, 하느님께서는 우리의 심장을 바라보시며, 그 심중에 하느님의 일을 위하여 쓰실만한 것이 있는지 살피십니다.

 

One day a man walked into a restaurant with his family. As they entered the restaurant the man looked aroundto see if there was anybody he knew in the restaurant. There was none. So they ordered food, very expensive meal. After eating they ordered some dessert which was given to them. While they were stilleating the dessert the waitress brought the bill. But few minutes later the waitress came and took the bill. So the man thought that the waitress had forgotten to include something in the bill. But the waitress never brought the bill back. So when they were about to leave they went to the counter to pay their bills. But they were toldthat their bill had been paid. The man insisted to know who had paid the bill and the waitress said the person who paid it has left. Nobody has ever paid his bill before. So he was struggling to believe it. But it was upon him to believe his bill is paid and walk away or he could refuse to believe and pay again.

어떤 사람이 가족과 함께 식당에 갔습니다. 들어가면서 아는 사람이 있는지 훑어 보았는데, 아는 사람은 아무도 없었습니다. 그래서 온 가족이 앉아 식사를 주문하게 되었는데, 좀 비싼 음식을 주문하였습니다. 식사 후에 후식을 주문하였습니다. 후식을 먹고 있을 때에 종업원이 식탁 위에 청구서를 가져다 놓았는데, 잠시 후에 다시 와서 그 청구서를 가져 갔습니다. 그래서 그 사람은 생각하기를 청구서에 무언가를 빠뜨려서 다시 작성하려고 간 것이리라고 생각했습니다. 그래서 떠날 때에 계산대에 가서 돈을 내려 하였습니다. 그런데 누군가가 음식 값을 이미 계산하였다는 것입니다. 누가 돈을 내었는지 알려달라고 하여도, 종업원은 그 사람은 벌써 계산하고 떠났다고만 합니다. 분명히, 먼저 계산한 사람이 없었는데 말입니다. 그는 정말 그것을 믿기가 어여웠습니다. 이제 그 사람은 그 음식 값이 계산 되었다고 믿고 그냥 나가던지, 아니면 그것을 믿지 않고 한 번 더 돈을 내던지 결정하여야 합니다.

 

Christ has paid our bill.The reason he is doing that is because we are special to him.

그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 대신 값을 치르셨습니다. 그렇게 하신 이유는, 그분께 우리들이 특별하기 때문입니다.

 

If anyone is worried about how much worth they have, by faith they should look to Christ and sa

y ‘Jesus Christ died for me, therefore in his eyes I’m special.’

누구든 스스로 얼만큰 값진 사람인지 절망하는 사람이 있거든, 지금 믿음의 눈으로 그리스도를 바라 보며 이렇게 말씀 하십시오. ‘예수께서는 나를 위하여 죽으셨고, 그러므로 그분 눈에 나는 특별한 사람이다.’

 

God is calling to a new life

새 삶을 살도록 부르시는 하느님

 

Jesus tells the fishermen to abandon their boats, their old professions and follow him.

예수께서는 어부들에게 그들의 배와 그들의 옛 소유를 놓아 버리고 당신을 따르라고 하십니다.

 

Some time following God means changingour old lifestyle, accepting Christ and taking up new res

ponsibilities in our churches or communities.

하느님을 따르는 것은 때때로 우리의 옛 생활 방식을 변화시키고, 그리스도를 영접하고, 교회와 사회에서 새로운 책임을 감당하는 것을 의미합니다.

 

Christ emptied himself that we may become full. He wantsus to empty ourselves from the world so he can fill us with heavenly gifts. Paul wrote to the church in Rome and told them –‘Do not conform to the patterns of this world but be transformed by renewing your minds.’

그리스도께서 스스로를 비우셨고, 그래서 우리를 가득 채워 주셨습니다. 그분께서는 우리가 세상에서는 비어 있는 사람이 되길 원하시며, 우리를 하늘의 선물로 채우고 싶어 하십니다. ‘이 세상의 풍조를 본뜨지 말고, 오직 마음을 새롭게 하여 변화하라’고 바울로는 로마 교회에 편지하였습니다.

 

In other words think about changing yourself and making new commitments.

이 말씀을 다른 말로 표현하면, 스스로 변화하고 또 새로운 헌신을 할 것을 생각하라는 것입니다.

 

I do not know what God is calling us to abandon so that wemay become part of his ministry.But c

ertainly Jesus is calling us to abandon something; to empty our hearts so that he can fill us with the Holy Spirit, thenwe can move in power of that Holy Spirit totransform the World.

저는 하느님께서 우리에게 무엇을 버리라고 하시는지, 또 어떤 일을 맡기시려 하시는지 알지 못합니다. 하지만 분명한 것은, 예수께서 우리에게 무언가 버리라고 말씀하신다는 것입니다. 우리가 우리 마음을 비울 때에만, 예수께서 우리를 성령으로 채워 주실 수 있습니다. 그러면 그 성령께서 권능으로 우리를 움직이셔서 세상도 변화시킬 수 있게 하실 것입니다.

 

Jesuswants to give us a new identity

우리에게 새로운 지위를 주고 싶어 하시는 예수님

 

He told the fishermen that if they followed him he was going to make them fishers of men instead, so they can bring people to God.

He wants us to partake in his ministry; it means we are copies Christ in grace and in duty that we are to share his message of grace and hope and salvationwith others.

예수께서는 어부들에게 말씀하시기를, 너희가 나를 따라 오면, 나는 너희를 사람 낚는 어부가 되게 하겠다고 하셨습니다. 사람들을 인도하여 하느님께로 이끌 수 있게 하겠다고 하십니다. 예수께서는 당신께서 하시는 일에 우리를 참여시키기 원하십니다. 다시 말하면, 우리는 그리스도의 은혜와 책임을 본받게 된다는 것입니다. 우리는 그분의 은혜와 사랑과 구원의 메세지를 다른 사람들과 나누게 된다는 것입니다.

 

Those who are first to receive the message of grace are called upon to be ambassadors of that message.

은혜의 메시지를 먼저 받았으니, 그 메세지를 전하는 특사가 된 것입니다.

 

Paul wrote to the church in Corinth (2 Cor 3:3) and said ‘you are letters of Christ, written by thespirit of God to be known and read by all men.’

바울로는 고린토 교회에 이렇게 편지하였습니다(2고린 3:3). ‘여러분은 그리스도의 편지이며, 하느님의 영이 직접 기록하셔서, 만민이 읽고 알게 될 글씨라고 하였습니다.’

 

Brothers and sisters, because we were the first to receive grace, now we are called upon to give grace.

형제 자매 여러분, 우리가 그 은혜를 먼저 받은 사람이 되었으니, 이제 그 은혜를 나누어 주도록 초청 받은 것입니다.

 

He is Calling us to embrace the Kingdom

하느님 나라를 품고 살도록 부르시는 예수님

 

Finally Jesus calls on usto embrace the Kingdom of God by accepting the good news. And I kno

w everybody comes to church on Sunday to with a hopeto hear the good news.

마지막으로 예수께서는 우리를 부르셔서, 복된 소식을 받아들임으로써 하느님 나라를 가슴에 안고 살라고 하였습니다.

 

The good newsthat Christ has began his reign andthat he has ushered in a kingdom full of grace and love and mercy, not of judgment.

그리스도께서 다스리기 시작하셨는데, 그 나라는 은혜와 사랑과 자비가 가득하고 심판이 없습니다.

 

The good news is that God loves sinners the same ways he loves the righteous and so he gives the sinful an opportunity to repent and be part of his Kingdom.

이 복된 소식은, 하느님께서 죄인들을, 의인들을 대하듯이 사랑해 주시고, 죄 많은 사람에게 회개할 기회를 주시고, 하느님 나라의 일부가 되도록 하신다는 것입니다.

 

King David said (in Psalms 52) that the sacrifices of God are a broken and a contrite spirit, for God will not reject a broken and a contrite heart.

다윗 왕은 말하기를(시편 52편) 하느님께서 원하시는 제사는 깨어지고 통회하는 영혼이라고 하였습니다. 하느님은 깨어지고 통회하는 마음을 져버리지 않으십니다.

 

Let us all cry out to Godto create in us a new hearts and he will make us his own.

우리 함께 하느님께 부르짖으며 새로운 마음을 우리 가운데 빚어 주시고, 우리를 당신의 소유로 삼아 주시도록 간구합시다.
