출애굽기 32:7-14
7 야훼께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "당장 내려 가 보아라. 네가 에집트에서 데려 내 온 너의 백성들이 고약하게 놀아나고 있다. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt.
8 저들이 내가 명령한 길에서 저다지도 빨리 벗어나 저희 손으로 부어 만든 수송아지에게 예배하고 제물을 드리며 '이스라엘아, 이신이 우리를 에집트 땅에서 데려 내 온 우리의 신이다' 라고 떠드는구나!" They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, 'These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.'
9 야훼께서 계속하여 모세에게 이르셨다. "나는 이 백성을 잘 안다. 보아라, 얼마나 고집이 센 백성이냐? "I have seen these people," the LORD said to Moses, "and they are a stiff-necked people.
10 나를 말리지 말아라. 내가 진노를 내려 저들을 모조리 쓸어버리리라. 그리고 너에게서 큰 백성을 일으키리라." Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation."
11 모세는 그의 하나님 야훼의 노기를 풀어 드리려고 애원하였다. "야훼여, 당신께서는 그 강하신 팔을 휘두르시어 놀라운 힘으로 당신의 백성을 에집트 땅에서 데려 내 오시지 않으셨습니까? 그런데 어찌하여 이 백성에게 이토록 화를 내시옵니까?
But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God. "O LORD," he said, "why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?
12 어찌하여 '아하, 그가 화를 내어 그 백성을 데려 내다가 산골짜기에서 죽여 없애 버리고 땅에 씨도 남기지 않았구나' 하는 말을 에집트인들에게서 들으시려 하십니까? 제발 화를 내지 마시고 당신 백성에게 내리시려던 재앙을 거두어 주십시오. Why should the Egyptians say, 'It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth'? Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster on your people.
13 당신의 명예를 걸고 '너의 후손을 하늘의 별처럼 많게 하고, 내가 약속한 이 땅을 다 너의 후손에게 주어 길이 유산으로 차지하게 하겠다' 고 맹세해 주셨던 당신의 종 아브라함과 이사악과 이스라엘을 기억해 주십시오." Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self: 'I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever.'"
14 이 말을 들으시고 야훼께서는 당신의 백성에게 내리시겠다던 재앙을 거두셨다.
Then the LORD relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.

시편 106:20-25
20 하나님을 섬기는 그들의 영광을 풀을 먹는 황소 상과 바꾸어 버렸다.
They exchanged their Glory for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
21 그들은 자기들을 구해 주신 하나님을, 에집트에서 굉장한 일 하신분을, 잊어 버렸다.
They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt,
22 함 땅에서의 놀라운 일도, 홍해바다에서의 무서운 일도 그들은 모두 잊어 버렸다.
miracles in the land of Ham and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
23 주께서 그들을 없애겠다 말씀하실 때 손수 뽑으신 모세 홀로 몸을 던져 그분 앞에 나아가 파멸의 그 진노를 거두시게 하였다. So he said he would destroy them--had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.
24 그들은 또 하나님의 말씀을 믿지 않고서 복락의 그 땅을 마다면서
Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise.
25 천막에 들어앉아 불평만 하고 야훼의 분부를 듣지 않았다.
They grumbled in their tents and did not obey the LORD.

요한복음 5:31-47
31 "나 자신의 일을 내 입으로 증언한다면 그것은 참된 증언이 못 된다.
"If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid.
32 그러나 나를 위하여 증언하는 이가 따로 있으니 그의 증언은 분명히 참된 것이다.
There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is valid.
33 너희가 요한에게 사람을 보냈을 때에 요한은 진리를 증언하였다.
"You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth.
34 나에게는 사람의 증언이 소용없으나 다만 너희의 구원을 위해서 이 말을 하는 것이다.
Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved.
35 요한은 환하게 타오르는 등불이었다. 너희는 한때 그 빛을 보고 대단히 좋아했다.
John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.
36 그런데 나에게는 요한의 증언보다 훨씬 더 나은 증언이 있다. 지금 내가 하고 있는 일은 아버지께서 나에게 성취하라고 맡겨 주신 일인데 그것이 바로 아버지께서 나를 보내셨다는 증거가 된다.
"I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me.
37 그리고 나를 보내신 아버지께서도 친히 나를 위하여 증언해 주셨다. 너희는 아버지의 음성을 들은 적도 없고 모습을 본 일도 없다. And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,
38 더구나 아버지께서 보내신 이를 믿지 않으므로 마음 속에 아버지의 말씀이 들어 있지 않다.
nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent.
39 너희는 성서 속에 영원한 생명이 있는 것을 알고 파고들거니와 그 성서는 바로 나를 증언하고 있다. You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me,
40 그런데도 너희는 나에게 와서 생명을 얻으려 하지 않는다."
yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
41 "나는 사람에게서 찬양을 받으려 하지 않는다.
"I do not accept praise from men,
42 너희에게 하나님을 사랑하는 마음이 없다는 것을 잘 알고 있다.
but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.
43 내가 내 아버지의 이름으로 왔지만 너희는 나를 받아들이지 않는다. 그러나 아마 딴 사람이 자기 이름을 내세우고 온다면 너희는 그를 맞아들일 것이다. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.
44 너희는 서로 영광을 주고받으면서도 오직 한 분이신 하나님께서 주시는 영광은 바라지 않으니 어떻게 나를 믿을 수가 있겠느냐? How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?
45 그러나 내가 너희를 아버지께 고발하리라고 생각하지는 말라. 너희를 고발할 사람은 오히려 너희가 희망을 걸어 온 모세이다. "But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.
46 만일 너희가 모세를 믿는다면 나를 믿을 것이다. 모세가 기록한 것은 바로 나에게 관한 것이기 때문이다. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
47 너희가 모세의 글도 믿지 않으니 어떻게 내 말을 믿겠느냐?"
But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"
