호세아 5:15-6:6
15 그리고는 내가 하늘로 돌아 가 이 백성이 죄를 고백하며 나를 찾기까지 기다리리라. 이 백성은 괴로움을 참다못해 마침내 나를 애타게 찾으리라. Then I will go back to my place until they admit their guilt. And they will seek my face; in their misery they will earnestly seek me."
6:1 "어서 야훼께로 돌아가자! 그분은 우리를 잡아 찢으시지만 아물게 해 주시고, 우리를 치시지만 싸매 주신다. "Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds.
2 이틀이 멀다 하고 다시 살려 주시며 사흘이 멀다 하고 다시 일으켜 주시리니, 우리 다 그분 앞에서 복되게 살리라.
After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.
3 그러니 그리운 야훼님 찾아 나서자. 그의 정의가 환히 빛나 오리라. 어김없이 동터 오는 새벽처럼 그는 오시고 단비가 내리듯 봄비가 촉촉이 뿌리듯 그렇게 오시리라."
Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth."
4 그러나 에브라임아, 너를 어떻게 하면 좋겠느냐. 유다야, 너를 어떻게 하면 좋겠느냐. 너희 사랑은 아침 안게 같구나. 덧없이 사라지는 이슬 같구나.
"What can I do with you, Ephraim? What can I do with you, Judah? Your love is like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears.
5 그래서 나는 예언자들을 시켜 너희를 찍어 쓰러뜨리고 내 입에서 나오는 말로 너희를 죽이리라.
Therefore I cut you in pieces with my prophets, I killed you with the words of my mouth; my judgments flashed like lightning upon you.
6 내가 반기는 것은 재물이 아니라 사랑이다. 재물을 바치기 전에 이 하나님의 마음을 먼저 알아 다오. For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.

시편 51:1-2, 16-19
1 하나님, 선한 이여, 나를 불쌍히 여기소서. 어지신 분이여, 내 죄를 없애 주소서.
For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
2 허물을 말끔히 씻어 주시고 잘못을 말끔히 씻어 주소서.
Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
(6 그러나 당신은 마음 속의 진실을 기뻐하시니 지혜의 심오함을 나에게 가르쳐 주소서.
Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.
7 정화수를 나에게 뿌리소서, 이 몸이 깨끗해지리이다. 나를 씻어 주소서, 눈보다 더 희게 되리이다.
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
8 기쁨과 즐거움의 소리를 들려주소서. 꺾여진 내 뼈들이 춤을 추리이다.
Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
9 당신의 눈을 나의 죄에서 돌리시고 내 모든 허물을 없애 주소서.
Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.
10 하나님, 깨끗한 마음을 새로 지어 주시고 꿋꿋한 뜻을 새로 세워 주소서.
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 당신 앞에서 나를 쫓아 내지 마시고 당신의 거룩한 뜻을 거두지 마소서.
Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 그 구원의 기쁨을 나에게 도로 주시고 변치 않는 마음 내 안에 굳혀 주소서.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.)
16 당신은 제물을 즐기지 아니하시며, 번제를 드려도 받지 아니하십니다.
You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
17 하나님, 내 제물은 찢어진 마음뿐, 찢어지고 터진 마음을 당신께서 얕보지 아니하시니,
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
18 어지신 마음으로 시온을 돌보시어 예루살렘 성벽을 다시 쌓게 하소서.
In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem.
19 그 때에는 번제와 제물을 올바른 제사로 기뻐 받으시리니, 송아지를 잡아 당신 제단에 바치리이다. Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your altar.

루가복음 18:9-14
9 예수께서는 자기네만 옳은 줄 믿고 남을 업신여기는 사람들에게 이런 비유를 말씀하셨다.
To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable:
10 "두 사람이 기도하러 성전에 올라갔는데 하나는 바리사이파 사람이었고 또 하나는 세리였다.
"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11 바리사이파 사람은 보라는 듯이 서서 '오, 하나님! 감사합니다. 저는 다른 사람들과는 달리 욕심이 많거나 부정직하거나 음탕하지 않을 뿐더러 세리와 같은 사람이 아닙니다.
The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector.
12 저는 일주일에 두 번이나 단식하고 모든 수입의 십분의 일을 바칩니다' 하고 기도하였다.
I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'
13 한편 세리는 멀찍이 서서 감히 하늘을 우러러 보지도 못하고 가슴을 치며 '오, 하나님! 죄 많은 저에게 자비를 베풀어주십시오' 하고 기도하였다.
"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'
14 잘 들어라. 하나님께 올바른 사람으로 인정받고 집으로 돌아 간 사람은 바리사이파 사람이 아니라 바로 그 세리였다. 누구든지 자기를 높이면 낮아지고 자기를 낮추면 높아질 것이다."
"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
