- The Situation in the North 북한의 상황

Life goes on in the North--getting more difficult for more people.  The latest thing appears to be a crackdown on decadent, capitalist clothing.  Following his recent trip to China, Kim Jong Il ordered the crackdown, especially on clothes with English writing on them.  However, it does not seem to be very effective.  Here is an article with more information.  As noted before, there is an increase in AIDS in NK.  Here is a recent article on some young women caught defecting to China in order to seek treatment.  South Korean television appears to be having considerable influence in the North even to leading people to defect, including nine who recently went to Japan by boat.  Here is an article.  There are also reports of soldiers going AWOL and stealing in order to eat.

Here is a good interview with a woman traveling back and forth to China for trade.  Note: "Chosun" is the North Korean term for Korea and "Hanguk" is the South Korean term.

- The River of Life School 생명의강 학교

Please keep the school and Principal Liz Torrey in your prayers as she works on recruiting teachers and developing curriculum for next year.  We start our first year of high school after the winter break.

학교과 리즈 토레이 교장선생님을 위해서 계속 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 현재 다음 학기를 위한 교과과정 계발 및 교사 선발 작업을 진행중인데 이를 위해서도 기도해 주십시오. 겨울방학후 내년 봄학기에는 고등학교 1학년 과정을 시작합니다.



- The Fourth River Project 네번째강 계획

There is not a lot to report other than that the Lord continues to have us focus on prayer.  We know we need to be praying more and want to.  We also want to call others to pray as well.  Ben and Liz will take a short trip to the US in October to explore possible prayer partnerships.  Jaeson Ma's visit to Jesus Abbey for 40 days of prayer earlier this year was a catalyst for much of this.  Here is a link to his blog on his experience at the Abbey.

주님께서 우리로 하여금 계속해서 기도에 집중하도록 하시고 있는 것 외에 별다른 소식은 없습니다. 더 기도해야 할 때이고, 우리도 그것을 원하고 있습니다. 또한 다른 지체들과도 함께 기도하고 싶습니다. 벤&리즈 부부는 10월중에 기도동역을 위한 분별을 위해서 미국에 다녀올 계획입니다. 올 초 제이슨 마 목사님이 40일간 예수원에 머물면서 이를 위한 촉매제가 되었습니다. 링크link 를 누르시면 예수원 생활에 대한 그의 나눔을 블로그에서 보실 수 있습니다.



- Update on Jane Torrey--Please Pray! 현 재인 사모님 소식-기도요청!

When Liz and I travel to the US this month, we will also be visiting my mother, Jane Torrey, Chairwoman of Jesus Abbey.  As most of you know, we took her to the US earlier this year for extended treatment of an ulcer on her right leg.  Over time, she lost the use of her right leg altogether.  This was both puzzling and troubling.  She is currently confined to a wheel chair.  Recent tests, however, have solved the puzzle but the situation turns out to be very grave.  We ask for your prayers for my mother.  It turns out that she has a tumor on the left lobe of her brain, the part that controls the right side of her body.  This tumor cannot be operated on.  We are exploring other treatment possibilities.  Please pray for the tumor to shrink and disappear, for her use of her right leg to be restored and for wisdom for her doctors, for herself as she makes decisions and for us as we assist her.

이번에 리즈자매와 미국에 가면 예수원의 대표이사이신 제 어머니 현 재인 사모님을 뵐 계획입니다. 모두 아시듯이 어머니께서는 올 초 오른쪽 다리에 생긴 궤양을 치료하시기 위해서 미국으로 가셨습니다. 시간이 지나면서 어머니는 오른쪽 다리를 거의 사용하기 어려운 상황이 돼서, 원인을 알 수 없는 어렵고도 힘든 상황이었습니다. 최근에는 휠체어를 사용해야 했는데, 검사결과 문제가 무엇인지는 밝혀졌지만 더 끔찍한 상황입니다. 어머니를 위해서 기도해 주시길 부탁드립니다. 어머니의 좌뇌엽에서 종양이 발견되었습니다. 여기서 몸의 오른쪽 부분을 관장하는 것입니다. 종양은 현재 수술하기는 어렵기 때문에 다른 치료법을 찾고 있습니다. 종양이 작아져서 사라지도록 기도해 주십시오. 또한 오른쪽 다리의 회복과 치료를 담당한 의사들에게 지혜를 주시도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 어머니께서 결정을 내리게 되실 텐데 어머니와 돕는 저희를 위해서도 기도해 주십시오.
