창세기 17:3-9
3 아브람이 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드리자 하나님께서 그에게 다시 말씀하셨다.
Abram fell facedown, and God said to him,
4 "내가 너와 계약을 맺는다. 너는 많은 민족의 조상이 되리라.
"As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations.
5 내가 너를 많은 민족의 조상으로 삼으리니, 네 이름은 이제 아브람이 아니라 아브라함이라 불리리라. No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.
6 나는 너에게서 많은 자손이 태어나 큰 민족을 이루게 하고 왕손도 너에게서 나오게 하리라.
I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you.
7 나는 너와 네 후손의 하나님이 되어 주기로, 너와 대대로 네 뒤를 이을 후손들과 나 사이에 나의 계약을 세워 이를 영원한 계약으로 삼으리라.
I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
8 네가 몸 붙여 살고 있는 가나안 온 땅을 너와 네 후손에게 준다. 나는 그들의 하나님이 되어 주리라." The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God."
9 하나님께서 또 아브라함에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 내 계약을 지켜야한다. 너뿐 아니라, 네 후손 대대로 지켜야 한다. Then God said to Abraham, "As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.

시편 105:4-9
4 야훼를 찾아라, 그의 힘을 빌어라. 잠시도 그의 곁을 떠나지 말아라.
Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.
5 얼마나 묘한 일들 하셨는지 생각들 하여라. 그의 기적들, 그 입으로 내리신 판단을 명심하여라.
Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
6 그의 종 아브라함의 후손들아, 그가 뽑으신 야곱의 자손들아,
O descendants of Abraham his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
7 그분이 바로 야훼 우리 하나님, 온 세상을 바로 다스리시는 분이시다.
He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
8 계약을 맺으시며 만대에 내리신 말씀 영원히 잊지 아니하신다.
He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations,
9 아브라함과 맺으신 계약, 이사악과 맹세하셨다.
the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.

요한복음 8:51-19
51 정말 잘 들어 두어라. 내 말을 잘 지키는 사람은 영원히 죽지 않을 것이다."
I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."
52 그러자 유다인들은 "이제 우리는 당신이 정녕 마귀들린 사람이라는 것을 알았소. 아브라함도 죽고 예언자들도 죽었는데 당신은 '내 말을 잘 지키는 사람은 영원히 죽지 않는다' 고 하니
At this the Jews exclaimed, "Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that if anyone keeps your word, he will never taste death.
53 그래 당신은 이미 죽은 우리 조상 아브라함보다 더 훌륭하다는 말이오? 예언자들도 죽었는데 당신은 도대체 누구란 말이오?" Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?"
54 예수께서 이렇게 대답 하셨다. "내가 나 자신을 높인다면 그 영광은 아무것도 아니다. 그러나 나에게 영광을 주시는 분은 너희가 자기 하나님이라고 하는 나의 아버지이시다.
Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.
55 너희는 그분을 알지 못하지만 나는 그분을 알고 있다. 내가 만일 그분을 모른다고 말한다면 나도 너희처럼 거짓말장이가 될 것이다. 그러나 나는 그분을 알고 있으며 그분의 말씀을 지키고 있다.
Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and keep his word.
56 너희의 조상 아브라함은 내 날을 보리라는 희망에 차 있었고 과연 그 날을 보고 기뻐하였다."
Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad."
57 유다인들은 이 말씀을 듣고 "당신이 아직 쉰 살도 못되었는데 아브라함을 보았단 말이오?" 하고 따지고 들었다.
"You are not yet fifty years old," the Jews said to him, "and you have seen Abraham!"
58 예수께서는 "정말 잘 들어 두어라. 나는 아브라함이 태어나기 전부터 있었다" 하고 대답하셨다.
"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"
59 이 말씀을 듣고 그들은 돌을 집어 예수를 치려고 하였다. 그러나 예수께서는 몸을 피하여 성전을 떠나 가셨다. At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
