예레미야 15:10, 16-21
10 "아아, 어머니! 왜 나를 낳으셨습니까? 온 나라 사람이 다 나에게 시비를 걸고 싸움을 걸어옵니다. 나는 아무에게도 빚진 일이 없고 빚을 준 일도 없는데, 사람마다 이 몸을 저주합니다.
Alas, my mother, that you gave me birth, a man with whom the whole land strives and contends! I have neither lent nor borrowed, yet everyone curses me.
16 말씀 내리시는 대로 저는 받아 삼켰습니다. 만군의 야훼 하나님, 이 몸을 주님의 것이라 불러 주셨기에 주님의 말씀이 그렇게도 기쁘고 마음에 흐뭇하기만 하였습니다.
When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty.
17 저는 웃으며 깔깔대는 자들과 한 자리에 어울리지도 않았습니다. 주님 손에 잡힌 몸으로 이렇게 울화가 치밀어 올라 홀로 앉아 있습니다. I never sat in the company of revelers, never made merry with them; I sat alone because your hand was on me and you had filled me with indignation.
18 이 괴로움은 왜 끝이 없습니까? 마음의 상처는 나을 것 같지 않습니다. 주께서는 물이 마르다가도 흐르고, 흐르다가도 마르는 도무지 믿을 수 없는 도랑같이 되셨습니다."
Why is my pain unending and my wound grievous and incurable? Will you be to me like a deceptive brook, like a spring that fails?
19 "그렇다면 이 야훼의 말을 들어 보아라. 너의 마음을 돌려 잡아라. 나는 다시 너를 내 앞에 서게 하여 주겠다. 그런 시시한 말은 그만두고 말 같은 말을 하여라. 나는 너를 나의 대변자로 세운다. 백성이 너에게로 돌아 와야지 네가 백성에게로 돌아가서는 안 된다.
Therefore this is what the LORD says: "If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them.
20 내가 너를 그런 놋쇠로 든든하게 만든 성벽처럼 세우리니, 이 백성이 아무리 달려들어도 너를 꺾지 못하리라. 나는 너를 떠나지 않을 것이며 너를 도와 구하여 주리라. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다.
I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you," declares the LORD.
21 나는 너를 악인들의 손에서 구하여 주며 악한들의 손아귀에서 빼내 주리라."
"I will save you from the hands of the wicked and redeem you from the grasp of the cruel."

시편 59:1-4, 14-17 (To the tune of"Do Not Destroy." Of David. A miktam.)
1 나의 하나님, 원수에게서 나를 구하소서. 나에게 달려드는 자들에게서 나를 보호하소서.
When Saul had sent men to watch David's house in order to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me.
2 악을 꾸미는 자들에게서 나를 구하소서. 피를 보려는 자들에게서 나를 살려 주소서.
Deliver me from evildoers and save me from bloodthirsty men.
3 내 목숨을 노리는 자들을 보소서. 권세있는 자들이 나를 해치려 몰려 듭니다. 야훼여, 나에게는 죄도 없고 잘못도 없사옵니다. See how they lie in wait for me! Fierce men conspire against me for no offense or sin of mine, O LORD.
4 무죄한 이 몸을 해치려고 저렇게 몰려 와 진을 쳤사옵니다. 일어나소서. 나에게 오시어 보소서.
I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight!
14 해만 지면 돌아 와서 개처럼 짖어대며 성안을 여기저기 쏘다닙니다.
They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.
15 먹을 것을 찾아 헤매다가, 빈 창자를 채우지 못하고 울어댑니다.
They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied.
16 그러나, 나는 당신의 힘을 찬양합니다. 아침마다 당신의 사랑을 찬양합니다. 어려운 일을 당할 적마다 당신은 나의 요새, 나의 피난처가 되어 주셨습니다. But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
17 나의 힘이여, 수금 타며 당신을 노래합니다. "하나님은 나의 요새, 하나님은 나의 사랑".
O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.

마태복음 13:44-46
44 "하늘 나라는 밭에 묻혀 있는 보물에 비길 수 있다. 그 보물을 찾아낸 사람은 그것을 다시 묻어 두고 기뻐하며 돌아가서 있는 것을 다 팔아 그 밭을 산다."
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45 "또 하늘 나라는 어떤 장사꾼이 좋은 진주를 찾아다니는 것에 비길 수 있다.
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46 그는 값진 진주를 하나 발견하면 돌아가서 있는 것을 다 팔아 그것을 산다."
When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
