예레미야 45:1-5
1 요시야의 아들 여호야킴이 유다 왕이 된 지 사 년째 되던 해에 예언자 예레미야는 네리야의 아들 바룩에게 하나님의 말씀을 불러주어 받아쓰게 한 다음, 바룩에게 내리는 말씀을 이렇게 전하였다.
This is what Jeremiah the prophet told Baruch son of Neriah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, after Baruch had written on a scroll the words Jeremiah was then dictating:
2 "바룩아, 나 야훼가 이스라엘의 하나님으로서 너에게 말한다.
"This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch:
3 나는 네가 하는 말을 들었다. '아, 나는 끝장이다. 가뜩이나 고생스러운데 야훼마저 나를 괴롭히시니, 나는 한숨 쉴 힘조차 없고, 조금도 안심할 수가 없구나.' You said, 'Woe to me! The LORD has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with groaning and find no rest.'"
4 내 말을 들어라. 나는 세웠다가도 헐 수 있고 심었다가도 뽑을 수 있다.
The LORD said,"Say this to him: 'This is what the LORD says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot what I have planted, throughout the land.
5 네가 이제 큰일을 도모한다마는, 그만두어라. 내가 곧 모든 사람에게 재앙을 내리겠지만, 너만은 어디 가든지 목숨을 건지도록 보살펴 주리라. 이는 내 말이라, 어김이 없다."
Should you then seek great things for yourself? Seek them not. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the LORD, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.'"

시편 126 (A song of ascents)
1 야훼께서 시온의 포로들을 풀어 주시던 날, 꿈이든가 생시든가!
When the LORD brought back the captives to Zion, we were like men who dreamed.
2 그 날 우리의 입에서는 함박 같은 웃음 터지고 흥겨운 노랫가락 입술에 흘렀도다. 그 날 이교백성 가운데서 들려 오는 말소리 "놀라와라, 야훼께서 저 사람들에게 하신 일들!"
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."
3 야훼께서 우리에게 놀라운 일 하셨으니 우리는 얼마나 기뻤던가.
The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
4 야훼여, 저 네겝 강바닥에 물길 돌아오듯이 우리의 포도들을 다시 데려 오소서.
Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like streams in the Negev.
5 눈물을 흘리며 씨뿌리는 자, 기뻐하며 거두어들이리라.
Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy.
6 씨를 담아 들고 울며 나가는 자, 곡식단을 안고서 노랫소리 흥겹게 들어오리라. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.

사도 11:27-12:2
27 그 무렵 예언자 몇 사람이 예루살렘에서 안티오키아로 내려 왔다.
During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.
28 그들 가운데 하가보라는 사람이 성령의 감동을 받아 일어나서 온 세상에 기근이 들 것이라고 예언하였다. 과연 이 기근은 글라우디오 황제 때에 일어났다.
One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)
29 그래서 신도들은 각각 힘 닿는 대로 헌금하여 유다에 있는 교우들을 돕기로 하였다.
The disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea.
30 이렇게 헌금한 것을 그들은 바르나바와 사울의 손을 거쳐 교회 원로들에게 보냈다.
This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.
12:1 이 무렵 헤로데왕이 교회의 모모한 사람들에게 박해의 손을 뻗쳐
It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them.
2 우선 요한의 형 야고보를 잘라 죽였다.
He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword.

마태복음 20:20-28
20 그 때에 제베대오의 두 아들이 어머니와 함께 예수께 왔는데 그 어머니는 무엇인가를 청할 양으로 엎드려 절을 하였다. Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.
21 예수께서 그 부인에게 "원하는 것이 무엇이냐?" 하고 물으시자 그 부인은 "주님의 나라가 서면 저의 이 두 아들을 하나는 주님의 오른편에, 하나는 왼편에 앉게 해 주십시오" 하고 부탁하였다.
"What is it you want?" he asked. She said, "Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom."
22 그래서 예수께서 그 형제들에게 "너희가 청하는 것이 무엇인지나 알고 있느냐? 내가 마시게 될 잔을 너희도 마실 수 있느냐?" 하고 물으셨다. 그들이 "마실 수 있습니다" 하고 대답하자
"You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said to them. "Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?" "We can," they answered.
23 예수께서는 다시 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "너희도 내 잔을 마시게 될 것이다. 그러나 내 오른편과 내 왼편 자리에 앉는 특권은 내가 주는 것이 아니다. 그 자리에 앉을 사람들은 내 아버지께서 미리 정해 놓으셨다."
Jesus said to them, "You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father."
24 이 말을 듣고 있던 다른 열 제자가 그 형제를 보고 화를 냈다.
When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.
25 예수께서는 그들을 가까이 불러 놓고 "너희도 알다시피 세상에서는 통치자들이 백성을 강제로 지배하고 높은 사람들이 백성을 권력으로 내리누른다.
Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
26 그러나 너희는 그렇게 해서는 안 된다. 너희 사이에서 높은 사람이 되고자 하는 사람은 남을 섬기는 사람이 되어야 하고
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
27 으뜸이 되고자 하는 사람은 종이 되어야 한다.
and whoever wants to be first must be your slave--
28 사실은 사람의 아들도 섬김을 받으러 온 것이 아니라 섬기러 왔고 많은 사람을 위하여 목숨을 바쳐 몸값을 치르러 온 것이다" 하셨다. just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
