야고보서 2:14-24, 26
14 나의 형제 여러분, 어떤 사람이 믿음이 있다고 말하면서 그것을 행동으로 나타내지 못한다면 무슨 소용이 있겠습니까? 그런 믿음이 그 사람을 구원할 수 있겠습니까? What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?
15 어떤 형제나 자매가 헐벗고 그 날 먹을 양식조차 떨어졌는데 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.
16 여러분 가운데 누가 그들의 몸에 필요한 것은 아무것도 주지 않으면서 "평안히 가서 몸을 따뜻하게 녹이고 배부르게 먹어라" 고 말만 한다면 무슨 소용이 있겠습니까?
If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?
17 믿음도 이와 같습니다. 믿음에 행동이 따르지 않으면 그런 믿음은 죽은 것입니다.
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
18 이렇게 말하는 사람도 있을 것입니다. "당신에게는 믿음이 있지만 나에게는 행동이 있소. 나는 내 행동으로 내 믿음을 보여 줄 테니당신은 행동이 따르지 않는 믿음이라는 것을 보여 주시오.
But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
19 당신은 한 분이신 하나님을 믿고 있습니까? 그것은 좋은 일입니다. 그러나 마귀들도 그렇게 믿고 무서워 떱니다.
You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder.
20 이 어리석은 사람이여, 행동이 뒤따르지 않는 믿음은 아무 소용이 없다는 것을 알고 싶습니까?
You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?
21 우리 조상 아브라함은 자기 아들 이사악을 제단에 바친 행동으로 말미암아 하나님과의 올바른 관계를 가지게 된 것이 아닙니까?
Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?
22 당신도 알다시피 그의 믿음은 행동과 일치했고 그 행동으로 말미암아 그의 믿음은 완전하게 된 것입니다.
You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.
23 이렇게 해서 ' 아브라함은 하나님을 믿었고 하나님께서는 그의 믿음을 보시고 그를 올바른 사람으로 인정해 주셨다 ' 라는 성서 말씀이 이루어졌으며 아브라함은 하나님의 친구라고 불리었던 것입니다."
And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend.
24 그러므로 여러분은 사람이 믿음만으로 하나님과의 올바른 관계를 가지게 되는 것이 아니라 행동이 뒤따라야 한다는 것을 알아 두십시오.
You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
25 이와 같이 창녀 라합도 유다인이 보낸 사람들을 친절히 맞아 들였다가 다른 길로 떠나 보낸 행동으로 말미암아 올바른 사람으로 인정받은 것이 아닙니까? In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?
26 영혼이 없는 몸이 죽은 것과 마찬가지로 행동이 없는 믿음도 죽은 믿음입니다. As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
시편 112
1 할렐루야. 복되어라, 야훼를 경외하며 그의 계명을 좋아하는 사람,
Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.
2 그의 자손은 세상의 영도자가 되고 정직한 후예의 축복을 받으리라.
His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 그의 집에는 부귀영화가 깃들이고 그의 의로운 행실은 영원히 기억되리라. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.
4 그는 어질고 자비롭고 올바른 사람이라 어둠 속의 빛처럼, 정직한사람을 비춘다.
Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man.
5 인정이 많고 동정어려 남에게 꾸어 주며, 모든 일을 양심으로 처리한다.
Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.
6 그 사람은 흔들리지 않겠고 영원히 의로운 사람으로 기억되리라.
Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever.
7 야훼를 믿으므로 그 마음이 든든하여 불행이 온다 해도 겁내지 아니한다.
He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
8 확신이 섰으니 두려울 것 없고 마침내 원수들이 망하는 것을 보게되리라.
His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
9 그는 너그러워 가난한 자들에게 나눠주니, 그 의로운 행실은 영원히 기억되고, 사람들이 그 영광스런 모습을 우러르리라.
He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor.
10 이를 보고 악인은 속이 뒤틀려 이를 갈면서 사라져 가리라. 악인들의 소원은 물거품이 되리라.
The wicked man will see and be vexed, he will gnash his teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.

마르코복음 8:34-9:1
34 예수께서 군중과 제자들을 한 자리에 불러 놓고 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "나를 따르려는 사람은 누구든지 자기를 버리고 제 십자가를 지고 따라야 한다. Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
35 제 목숨을 살리려는 사람은 잃을 것이며, 나 때문에 또 복음 때문에 제 목숨을 잃는 사람은 살릴 것이다. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.
36 사람이 온 세상을 얻는다 해도 제 목숨을 잃는다면 무슨 이익이 있겠느냐? What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?
37 사람이 목숨을 무엇과 바꿀 수 있겠느냐? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 절개 없고 죄 많은 이 세대에서 누구든지 나와 내 말을 부끄럽게 여기면 사람의 아들도 아버지의 영광에 싸여 거룩한 천사들을 거느리고 올 때에 그를 부끄럽게 여길 것이다." If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."
9:1 예수께서 또 말씀하셨다. "나는 분명히 말한다. 여기 서 있는 사람들 중에는 죽기 전에 하나님 나라가 권능을 떨치며 오는 것을볼 사람들도 있다."
And he said to them, "I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power."
