이사야 1:10, 16-20
10 소돔 고관들아, 야훼의 말씀을 들어 보아라. 고모라 백성들아, 우리 하나님의 법에 귀를 기울여 보아라. Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom; listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah!
16 몸을 씻어 정결케 하여라. 내 앞에서 악한 행실을 버려라. 깨끗이 악에서 손을 떼어라.
wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong,
17 착한 길을 익히고 바른 삶을 찾아라. 억눌린 자를 풀어 주고, 고아의 인권을 찾아 주며 과부를 두둔해 주어라." learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.
18 야훼께서 말씀하신다. "오라, 와서 나와 시비를 가리자. 너희 죄가 진홍같이 붉어도 눈과 같이 희어지며 너희 죄가 다홍같이 붉어도 양털같이 되리라.
"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
19 너희가 기꺼이 순종하면 땅에서 나는 좋은 것을 먹게 되리라.
If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land;
20 그러나 너희가 기어이 거역하면 칼에 맞아 죽으리라." 이는 야훼께서 친히 하신 말씀이다.
but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword." For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

시편 50:8, 16-23
8 너희가 바친 제물을 두고 탓하지 않는다. 너희는 거르지 않고 내 앞에 번제를 드렸다.
I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices or your burnt offerings, which are ever before me.
(9 나는 너희 집 소를 앗아가지 않으며, 너희 우리에서 염소를 앗아가지 아니하리라.
I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens,
10 숲 속의 뭇 짐승이 다 내 것이요 산 위의 많은 가축들이 다 내 것이 아니냐?
for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 공중의 저 새들도 다 내 마음에 새겨져 있고, 들에서 우굴거리는 생명들도 다 내 손안에 있다.
I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.
12 이 땅이 내 것이요 땅에 가득한 것도 내 것인데, 내가 배고픈들 너희에게 달라고 하겠느냐?
If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
13 내가 쇠고기를 먹겠으며 염소의 피를 마시겠느냐?
Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
14 사람이 하나님에게 바칠 제물은 감사하는 마음이요, 사람이 지킬 것은 지존하신 분에게 서원한 것을 갚는 일이다.
Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High,
15 어려운 일을 당할 때에 나를 불러라. 구해 주리라. 너는 나에게 영광을 돌려라".
and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.")
16 하나님께서 악인들에게 말씀하신다. "너희가 어찌 감히 나의 법도를 말하고 내 계약을 입에 담느냐? But to the wicked, God says: "What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?
17 나의 훈계를 지겹게 여기며 내 말을 귓전으로 흘리는 자들아,
You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
18 도둑을 만나면 한통속이 되고 음탕한 자들과 함께 어울리는 자들아,
When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers.
19 입으로는 죄악의 말을 쏟아 놓으며 혀로는 모함하는 소리만 하는 자들아,
You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit.
20 형제를 그 면전에서 헐뜯고 친동생의 허물을 들추어내는 자들아,
You speak continually against your brother and slander your own mother's son.
21 너희가 그런 짓을 하는데도 내가 말이 없을 줄 알았더냐? 나를 너희와 같은 줄로 알았더냐? 내가 밝히는 너희의 죄상을 보아라.
These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
22 하나님을 모른 체하는 자들아, 알아 두어라. 내가 너희를 찢겠으나 구해 줄 자 없으리라.
"Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with none to rescue:
23 감사하는 마음을 제물로 바치는 자, 나를 높이 받드는 자이니, 올바르게 사는 자에게 내가 하나님의 구원을 보여 주리라". He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God."

마태복음 23:1-12
1 그 때에 예수께서 군중과 제자들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다.
Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
2 "율법학자들과 바리사이파 사람들은 모세의 자리를 이어 율법을 가르치고 있다.
"The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat.
3 그러니 그들이 말하는 것은 다 실행하고 지켜라. 그러나 그들의 행실은 본받지 말아라. 그들은 말만 하고 실행하지는 않는다.
So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.
4 그들은 무거운 짐을 꾸려 남의 어깨에 메워 주고 자기들은 손가락하나 까딱하려 하지 않는다.
They tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
5 그들이 하는 일은 모두 남에게 보이기 위한 것이다. 그래서 이마나 팔에 성구 넣는 갑을 크게 만들어 매달고 다니며 옷단에는 기다란 술을 달고 다닌다.
"Everything they do is done for men to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long;
6 그리고 잔치에 가면 맨 윗자리에 앉으려 하고 회당에서는 제일 높은 자리를 찾으며
they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;
7 길에 나서면 인사 받기를 좋아하고 사람들이 스승이라 불러 주기를 바란다.
they love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call them 'Rabbi.'
8 그러나 너희는 스승 소리를 듣지 말아라. 너희의 스승은 오직 한 분 뿐이고 너희는 모두 형제들이다.  "But you are not to be called 'Rabbi,' for you have only one Master and you are all brothers.
9 또 이 세상 누구를 보고도 아버지라 부르지 말아라. 너희의 아버지는 하늘에 계신 아버지 한 분뿐이시다.
And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.
10 또 너희는 지도자라는 말도 듣지 말아라. 너희의 지도자는 그리스도 한 분뿐이시다.
Nor are you to be called 'teacher,' for you have one Teacher, the Christ.
11 너희 중에 으뜸가는 사람은 너희를 섬기는 사람이 되어야 한다.
The greatest among you will be your servant.
12 누구든지 자기를 높이는 사람은 낮아지고 자기를 낮추는 사람은 높아진다."
For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
