I Discover Imaging.
내가 이미지화를 발견하다.

Now I would like to tell you about a personal experience that
happened to me many years ago. It was through this experience
that I first came upon the powerful concept of imaging. And it
happened in an unexpected manner.
지금 나는 수년전 나에게 일어났던 한 개인적인 경험에 관해 이야기를
하고 싶습니다. 내가 처음으로 이미지화의 강력한 개념을 얻은것은
이경험으로 기인합니다. 그것은 기대하지 않은 방법으로 일어났읍니다.
        Ruth and I had started a magazine called Guideposts, a
spiritual, motivational publication. Beginning with only seven
hundred dollars in working capital, the subscription list had
risen to approximately forty thousand, but the financial sit-
uation had become difficult, in fact almost hopeless.
루쓰(부인)와 나는 "가이드포스트"라 불리는 잡지 :영적이며,
동기부여적인 출판물을 시작했었읍니다. 단지 사업자본으로 7밸달러
로 시작하였을때, 구독자의 명부는 대략 4만정도까지 올랐읍니다. 그러나
재정 상태가  어려워졌읍니다. 사실 거의 희망이 없었읍니다.
        At this junction, a meeting of the directors of the
magazine was called as we were in imminent danger of being
forced to discontinue the project. Present at this meeting was
a wonderful lady named Tessie Durlack, from whom we received a
dynamic and creative idea, one that changed the entire course
of events. And, I might add, that same idea can change your life,
too. as it did ours.
이중요시기에, 프로젝트가 중단될수 있는 급박한 위기에 있었기 때문에
잡지 중역회의가 소집되었습니다. 이화의에는 '테시두락'이라는 뚸어난
여성이 참석하였읍니다. 그녀로 부터 우리는 역동적이고 창조적인 생각
을 받았읍니다. 그것은 전체적 사건 전개를 바꾸었읍니다. 그리고 덧
붙일수 있을 것 같네요 그 생각이 우리에게 작용한것 처럼 동일한 생각이
여러분의 삶을 바꿀수 있다고요.
        Tessie listened to our glum and dismal appraisal of the
situation. We had hoped that she might follow an earlier substan-
tial contribution with another monetary gift. But she quickly said
she was going to give something much better than money, namely, a
vital idea which in turn would lead to prosperity. " The situation,"
she said, " is that you lack everything - subscribers, equipment,
capital. And why do you lack? Simply because you have been thinking
in terms of lack. You have been imaging lack so, therefore, you have
accordingly created a condition of lack. What you must do now, at
once, is to firmly tell these lack thoughts or images to get out of
your minds. You must start imaging prosperity instead."
테시는 우리의 상황에 대한 시무룩하고 우울한 평가를 경청하였다.우리는
그녀가 또다른 금전적인 실제적 기여를 쫒을것이라고 희망했다. 그러나
그녀는 돈보다 더좋은 무었을 즉,순차적으로 번영으로 이끄는 핵심 생각을
줄것이라고 이야기 했다. 상황은  여러분은 모든것 고객,장비,자본 모든것이
부족하다는 것입니다. 왜 여러분은 부족 할까요?
단지 여러분은 부족이라는 용어로 생각하여 왔기떄문에 여러분은 그렇게
부족을 형상화 해왔읍니다 그러므로 여러분은 부족의 조건을 만들었읍니다.
지금 즉시 여러분이 해야할 것은 이러한 부족의 생각과 이미지들을  여러분의
마음에서 물아내라고 강력하게 말하는 것입니다. 여러분은 그대신 번영을
형상화 하기 시작해야 합니다.
        Some of the directors objected that to mount a frontal attack
on an unhealthy or negative thought pattern would not exorcise such
thoughts but on the contrary would only serve to drive them more deeply
into consciousness. Other directors added their opinion that we do not
control out thoughts, but they control us. Seemingly disgusted by these
expressions, Tessie snapped, "Don't you remember what the great Plato
said?" I hadn't the slightest idea what the great Plato had said, but
not wishing to reveal my ignorance I asked brightly, "To which of the
many familiar statements of Plato do you refer?"
몇몇중역은 불건전하고 부정적인 사고방식을 전면공격하는 것은 그러한 생각들을
몰아내는 것이아니라 반대로 그것들을 의식속으로 더욱 깊숙히 유도하는데
쓰인다고 반대했다. 다른 중역들은  우리가 생각들을 제어하는것이아니고 생각이 우리를
제어한다는 그들의 의견을 덧붙였다. 겉으로 이러한 의사표현에 짜쯩스러워 하며,
테시는 손뼉을 쳤읍니다. 여러분 위대한 플라토(톤)의 말씀을 기역하십니까?
나는 그것을 전혀 몰랐다.나의 무지가 드러나지 않게 나는 약게 물었다.
플라토의 많은 익숙한 말중에 어떤 말을 언급한 것인가요?
        "To one you never heard of," she declared, and forthwith gave
a quotation which she attributed to Plato. As I recall, it went something
like this: " 'Take charge of your thoughts. You can do what you will with
them.' So flush out these lack thoughts and do it now, " she said . So
then and there, we flushed them out, actually "seeing" them troop out of
our minds.
그녀가 플라토의 인용문을 알려 주었다. 회상컨데 이와같은 것이었다.
너의 생각에 책임을 져라. 너희는 너희가 생각과 함께 하고자 하는 것은 할 수있다.
그러므로 이러한 부족하다는 생각들을 쏟아내고 지금 그것을 해라.
그래서 그때 그곳에서 우리는 그것을 쏟아냈다.
        She then explained that those lack ideas or visualizations were
hanging around in the expectation that they would return soon to the
perch in our minds where they had been hospitably entertained for so long
. She declared that the only way they could be kept out permanently was by
substituting a more powerful prosperity thought to displace them, an abundance
or prosperity mental picture. She then asked how many subscribers were needed
to guarantee a continuance of publishing and we agreed that one hundred
thousand would do it. " All right," she said, "I want you to look out there
mentally and see or visualize on hundred thousand persons as subscribers to
Guideposts, people who have paid for their subscriptions."
그녀는 그러한 결여의 생각과 시각화는 그것들이 오래동안 호의적으로 준비해왔던
우리들의 마음속의 정점에 곧 돌아가고자하는 기대감 가까이에 머무르는 것이라
설명했다. 그녀는 그런것들을 영원히 쫓아내는 유일한 방법은 그것들을 대처할
보다 강력한 번영의 생각으로(번영과 풍요의 정신적그림으로) 대처하는 것이다
라고 주장했다. 그녀는 얼마나 많은 구독자가 출간의 유지를 보장하는데 필요한가
고 물었고 우리는 10만명이면 된다고 동의했다. 좋아요 그녀는 말했다. 나는
여러분이 정신적으로 그곳을 보기를 그리고 10만명의 가이드포스트 구독자, 돈을
지불하는,를 보거나 시각화하기를 원합니다.
        Our visualizing was imperfect, to say the least, but she "saw" them,
and so powerful was her imaging that we began to visualize them, too. Then,
to our surprise, Tessie declared, " Now that we see them, we have them. Let
us pray and thank the Lord that He has given us one hundred thousand
subscribers." Rather astonished, we joined her in a prayer in which she asked
the Lord for nothing, but instead thanked Him for everything in advance,
including our one hundred thousand subscribers. In the course of her prayer
she quoted that great Scripture, "What things soever ye desire, when ye pray,
believe that  ye receive them, and ye shall have them" (Mark 11:24).
테시는 "우리는 그것을 보았고 가졌읍니다. 기도합시다  주께  우리에게 10만의
구독자를 주심에 감사합시다"고 주장했다.  그녀가 주께아무것도 요구
하지않고 그대신 미래의 모든것에, 우리의 10만 독자를 포함하여 , 대해 감사드리는
그녀의 기도에 참석했을때 좀 어리둥절 했다. 그녀의 기도중에서 그녀는 위대한 구절
을 인용했다.  무엇이든 너희가 원하는 것은 너희가 기도할때  받는다고 믿어라 그러
면 너희는 그것을 받게 될것이다.(마가 11.24)
        She had no sooner said " Amen" than Ruth and I, now tremendously
excited, looked to where a stack of unpaid bills had been put in front of our
directors, fully expecting they would have disappeared. Apparently we thought
the Lord might send down some sweet chariot to whisk them all away. But the
Lord, when He wants to change a situation, has a better method. He changes
people, and changed people change situations.
        And that is precisely what happened in this instance. Our hitherto
discouraged directors came alive and began to come up with new ideas at a
lively rate. Of course, 90 percent of them were not workable, but 10 percent
were valid, and in no time at all the bills began to melt away and subscriptions
poured in. Today Guideposts has not 100,000 subscribers but 3,600,000, and is
read monthly by 12 million persons, making it the fourteenth largest magazine
in the United States.
그녀가 아멘이라 말하자 마자 곧 로스와 나는 광장히 흥분되어서 지불되어지지 않은
지폐다발이 중역들 앞에 놓여있는것을 보았다. 분명히 우리는 주님이 그것들을 제거
할 좀 부드러운 병거를 보내 줄수도 있다고 생각했었다.  그러나 주님은 그가 한 상황을
변경하기를 원하실때, 더 좋은 방법을 가지셨다. 주님은 사람들을 변화하시고,
변화된 사람들은 상황을 변화시킨다.
그리고 그것은 확실히 이번 경우에서 일어났던 것이었다. 지금까지의 우리 용기없는
중역들은 다시 살아났고 활발하게 새로운 생각들로 생각하기 시작했다. 물론 그들의
90%는 움직이지 않았다. 그러나 10%는 유용했다. 그리고 순식간에 그 돈들은 녹아
버리기 시작했고 구독이 쏟아졌다. 오늘날 가이드포스트는 10만 이아닌 360만 구독자
를 가졌고  월간 1200만 사람들에 의해 읽혀지고 있다. 미국의 14번쨰 큰 잡지가
되었다.
        This incident and the demonstration of the projected image as a basic
law of mind was one of the highlights of our learning experience. Ruth and I
at once became aware of the incredible possibilities in the imaging process.
We realized the truth that if a person persistently images failure, life will
try its best to develop that picture as fact. But if one images success, it
will similarly strongly tend to develop that image as fact. From that time
until the present, we have studied the principle of imaging and worked with it,
testing it in many demonstrations of actual experience under varied circumstances.
We have come to the conclusion that this technique is effective in just about
all the important areas of living. it is one of the great principles of creative
living and is the theme of this book. It must be kept in mind, however, that
imaging is not a magic formula that simply, by some kind of mental trick, brings
desired rusults. In an amazing way, it does open doors to problem solving and to
goal achievement. But once those doors are open there must be discipline,
determination, patience, and persistance if the problem is to be solved or the
dream is to become reality. In this way you will find, as we have, that what you
can image you can be.
이 사건과 정신의 기본적 법칙으로 프로젝트화된 이미지의 그 논증은 우리들이 배운 경험의
정점들의 하나였다. 루스와 나는 즉시 그 이미지화 과정에서의 믿을수없는 가능성들을
깨닭게 되었다. 우리는  만약 한인간이 고집스럽게 실패를 상상한다면  삶이 실제로 그
그림을 개발하기위해 최선을 다하게 된다는 진리를 깨달았다. 그러나 만약 누군가 성공
을 생각한다면 그것은 마찬가지로 강하게 실제 그 이미지를 개발하는 경향이 있다. 그때
부터 지금까지 우리는 그 이미지의 원칙을 연구하여 왔으며 그것과 함께 일해왔다. 다양한
상황들하에 실제적 경험의 많은 논증으로 그것이 시험되어졋다.
우리는 이기술이 삶의 모든 중요한 부분에 대해 효과적이라는 결론을 내렸다.  그것은
생산적 삶의 가장 위대한 법칙들의 하나이고 이책의 주제이다.  그러나  명심해야 할것은
일종의 정신적 속임수로서 원하는 결과들을 가져오는 하나의 마술적 기능은 아니라는 것이다.
한 놀라운 방법으로  그것은 문제를 풀기위한 그리고  목표를 성취하기위한 문을 열어준다.
그러나 그문들이 열릴적 마다. 만약 문제를 풀기를 원하거나 꿈을 실현하기 위해서는
훈련, 결단,인내 그리고  고집이 있어야 만 한다.
이러한 방법으로 여러분은 우리가 경험했던것처럼 여러분이 될수있는 것들을 상상할수 있다는
것을 발견했을 것이다.
