저의 경우 아버지 학교는 갔다왔고, 부부관계는 지난주에 틈틈이
보았읍니다. 40대 남성 보았는데 이거 한번 들어 보십시오.
40대가 사추기라네요. 인생에서 돌아보는 시기고 무엇이 중요한지
를 정립하고 가장 중요한 나이레요.. 하여간 그 동영상 한번 보세요..

The Image of Her Future.
그녀의 미래상.

Now for the second story. Again we go back through the years.
We are in one of the poorer sections of an Ohio town. A young
girl is bending over a metal washtub. She is one of eight
children, the daughter of a miner. She is washing her father's
overalls, staring now and then out the grimy window at the
bleak, familiar symbols of poverty that surround her, an image
comes to her. She has had daydreams about her future before, but
this is more than a daydream. Diamond clear in hre mind is the
picture of a college campus, tranquil green lawns, ivy-covered
buildings. Graduation ceremonies are in progress,and she sees
herself in cap and gown receiving a parchment scroll. She feels
the soaring happiness, the sense of achievement, the pride.
팔남매 광부의 딸인 한 어린 소녀가 있는 오하이우의 가난한 지역에,  
으로 갑니다. 그녀는 지금 작업복을 빨고있읍니다. 빨래중 간혹 때
묻은 창을 보면서 그녀의 미래에 대한 꿈을 그려 봄니다.
그녀는  춘몽에서 이제는 구체화 된, 잔디와 담장이 처진 건물
의 대학 캠퍼스에서 졸업장을 받는  이미지화,미래를 그려보며 큰
행복감, 성취감,자부심을 느낍니다.
But what kind of impossible dream is this? No member of her family
has ever gone to college. Mary Crowe has prayed for the chance to
go, it is true, but there is no money for such things. The Great
Depression has the country by the throat. There is barely euough
food on the Crowe family table. Her strange vision must be just a
young girl's wistful fantasy, nothing more. And yet, the image of
herself receiving the parchment scroll was so vivid, so real.
이것이 가능한 꿈을까요? 그녀의 가족은 아무도 대학에 간사람이 없었
읍니다. 메리 크로는 대학에 갈 기회를 달라고 기도 했읍니다. 그것은 현실
이 되었읍니다. 그러나 돈이 없었읍니다. 대공황이 극에 달했고 그녀의
가족 식탁에는 충분한 음식이 없었읍니다. 그녀의 이상한 비젼은 한 어린
소녀의 탐나는 환상 , 그 이상의 것은  없었음에 틀림없었읍니다. 그러나
졸업장을 받는 그녀자신의 이미지는 매우 생생했고 실제적이었다.
Consider, now, what happens next. Mary Crowe receives a summons; her
parish priest would like to see her. Pussled, she goes to the rectory,
where the good father opens a desk dreawer and takes out an envelope.
"Mary," he says, "quite a while ago one of our parishioners gave me
some money to be used to educate some deserving young person. I've
been watching you, and I've decided you are the one. These funds will
make it possible for you to have a four-year scholarship at Saint
Mary-of-the-Springs. I know you'll make a wonderful record there."
다음에 일어난 일을 봅시다. 메리 크루는 호출을 받았다. 그녀의 교구 목사
가 그녀을 보기 원한다는 . 교구목사는 말했다. 오래전에 교구의 한사람이
교육 받을만한 사람에게 사용해 달라고 돈을 기부했다, 나는 너를 관찰해
왔는데 그 교육받을 만한 사람이 너라고 결정하게 되었다. 이기금은 성
메리오프더스프림 캠퍼스의 4년장학금이다. 나는 니가 그곳에서 놀라운
기록을 만들 것을 안다.라고
Again, passionate dream into concrete reality. Burning image into
tangible substance. Just coincidence? No, because Mary Crowe told me
that -- incredibly -- when she went to Saint Mary-of-the-Springs and
saw the campus for the first time, she recognized it. It was the
campus she had seen in the vision that came to her while she was
sloshing her father's overalls in the battered tin tub in the Crowe
family kitchen.
다시 구체적 현실에 대한 정열적인 꿈이 시작됬다. 구체적  내용의 이미지가
시작됬다. 딱 일치했을까요?  
그녀가 Saint Mary-of-the-Springs에 처음 갔을때 그녀는 그 켐퍼스가 그녀
의 부엌에서 오래된 주석 다라이에 아버지 작업복을 때릴동인(빨래할동안)
그녀에게 다가왔던 그 비젼에서 보았던 것임을 인식했다.
I can't explain that; Mary Crowe couldn't, either. But she did go to
college there. She studied hard and got top grades. As graduation
approached, she began to think about a career. She knew of a case in
her own run-down neighborhood where a life-insurance policy had stood
between a poor family and total disaster. So she dicided she would
like to become an insurance sales person.
나와 메리 크루는 그것을 설명할수 없다. 그러나 그녀는 대학에 갔서 열심히
공부하고 최고의 성적을 었었다. 졸업이 다가오자 그녀는 직업에 대해서 생각
하기 시작했다 그녀는 ,생명보험 정책이 한 가난한 가정과 총체적 재난 사이에 있는,
그녀자신의 지친 이웃에서 한 경우를 발견했다.(???? )
그래서 그녀는 생명보험 영업원이 되었으면하고 결정하였다.
In those days there were almost no women selling insurance. It just
wasn't done. It was a man's world. But Mary Crowe "saw" herself as a
successful producer. She visualized buyers whose lives would be
protected and helped by the insurance they bought. She fixed all this
in her mind with  tremendous clarity and vividness. Then she went to
look for a job as an agent for one of the largest insurance agencies
in the city.
그 당시 보험영업에는 여자가 거의 없었다. 영업은 남성들의 세계였다. 그녀는
보험으로 그들의 삶이 보호되고 도움되어지는 사람들을 그려보았다. 이러한
모든것이 그녀의 마음에 광장히 선명하고 생생하게 확정되었다. 그래서 그녀는
한 큰 보험사에 일을 구하러 갔다.
The man in charge of hiring turned her down. Flat. Women on his staff?
"Go away", he said to Mary Crowe, "you're wasting your time. And mine."
Mary Crowe went away, but the next day she came back. Again she was
refused. Again she came back. Again she was turned down. Day after day
this went on. Night after night, on her knees, Mary Crowe prayed for
patience and  persistence and the strength to follow her dream. She
closed her mind to doubt. She would not let it in.
고용 담당자는 그녀를 낙당 시켰다.  메리크루는 다음날 다시 왔고 다시
거절되었다. 이러한 반복이 날이면 날마다 계속되었고 밤이면 밤마다 그녀는
무릎을 끊고  그녀의 꿈을 위한 인내 힘과 끈기를 위해 기도하였다. 그리고
그녀는 그녀의 마음에 의심하는것을 닫았고 그녀안에 허락치 않았다.
Finally the man in charge of hiring was impressed with her dogged
determination. "All right," he said. "We'll take you on. But no
salary. No drawing account. Commissions only. So go on out and starve."
Mary Crowe went out and started selling, door to door.
결국 고용 담당자는 그녀의 끌질긴 결정에 감명을 받았고 받아 들였다.
봉급은 없었으며, 커미션만을 주는 조건이었다. 메리 크루는 나가서 집집
마다 영업을 시작하였다.
People listened, because she made them feel that she was primarily
interested in helping them -- as indeed she was. And she didn't
starve. Far from it. She became the number-one sales person for that
company. She became a member of the Million Dollar Round Table --
the exclusive group of insurance in a single year. She became a
legend in the insurance business. She became, in other words, just
what she had imaged herself to be -- a stunning success.
그녀는 그들에게 그녀가 일차적으로 그들에게 도움을 주는것에 관심이
있는것 같은 느낌을 주었다. 그녀는 아사하지 않았다. 그것과는 거리가 멀게
그녀는 그 회사에서 성공했고 보험업계의 전설이 되었다. 그녀는 그녀가 되고
자 형상화 했던 대로 되었다.
