사도행전 22:3-16(9:1-22)
3 "나는 유다인입니다. 나기는 길리기아의 다르소에서 났지만 바로 이 예루살렘에서 자랐고 가믈리엘 선생 아래서 우리의 조상이 전해 준 율법에 대해서 엄격한 교육을 받았습니다. 그리고 내가 하나님을 공경하던 열성은 오늘 이 자리에 모인 여러분의 열성 결코 못지 않습니다.
"I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. Under Gamaliel I was thoroughly trained in the law of our fathers and was just as zealous for God as any of you are today.
4 나는 교인이라면 남녀를 가리지 않고 잡아 감옥에 처넣고 죽이기까지 하면서 이 예수의 교를 박해하던 사람입니다. I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison,
5 내 말이 사실이라는 것을 대사제와 온 의회가 증명해 줄 것입니다. 나는 그 사람들로부터 다마스커스에 사는 우리 동포들에게 가는 공문을 받아 가지고 떠난 적이 있습니다. 그 곳에 있는 신도들까지도 잡아서 예루살렘으로 끌어다가 벌을 주려고 했던 것입니다." as also the high priest and all the Council can testify. I even obtained letters from them to their brothers in Damascus, and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished.
6 "길을 가다가 오정 때쯤에 다마스커스 가까이에 이르렀을 때에 갑자기 하늘에서 찬란한 빛이 나타나 내 주위에 두루 비쳤습니다.
"About noon as I came near Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven flashed around me.
7 내가 땅에 거꾸러지자 '사울아, 사울아, 네가 왜 나를 박해하느냐?' 하는 음성이 들려 왔습니다.
I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me, 'Saul! Saul! Why do you persecute me?'
8 나는 '주님, 누구십니까?' 하고 물었습니다. 그랬더니 '나는 네가 박해하는 나자렛 예수다' 하는 대답이 들려 왔습니다.
"'Who are you, Lord?' I asked. "'I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting,' he replied.
9 그 때 나와 함께있던 사람들은 그 빛을 보았지만 나에게 말씀하신 분의 음성은 듣지 못하였습니다. My companions saw the light, but they did not understand the voice of him who was speaking to me.
10 '주님 제가 어떻게 하면 좋겠습니까?' 내가 이렇게 물었더니 주께서는 '일어나서 다마스커스로 들어가거라. 거기에 가면 네가 해야 할 일을 모두 일러 줄 사람이 있을 것이다' 하고 말씀하셨습니다.
"'What shall I do, Lord?' I asked. "'Get up,' the Lord said, 'and go into Damascus. There you will be told all that you have been assigned to do.'
11 나는 그 눈부신 빛 때문에 앞을 못 보게 되어 같이 가던 사람들의 손에 이끌려 다마스커스로 들어 갔습니다. My companions led me by the hand into Damascus, because the brilliance of the light had blinded me.
12 거기에는 아나니아라는 사람이 있었습니다. 그는 율법을 잘 지키는 경건한 사람이었고 거기에 사는 모든 유다인들에게 존경을 받고 있었습니다. "A man named Ananias came to see me. He was a devout observer of the law and highly respected by all the Jews living there.
13 그가 나를 찾아 와 곁에 서서 '사울 형제, 눈을 뜨시오' 하고 나에게 말하였습니다. 그 순간 나는 눈이 띄어 그를 보게 되었습니다. He stood beside me and said, 'Brother Saul, receive your sight!' And at that very moment I was able to see him.
14 그 때 아나니아는 이런 말을 하였습니다. '우리 조상들의 하나님께서는 뜻하신 바를 깨닫게 하시고 그 죄 없으신 분을 알아보게 하시고 또 친히 하시는 말씀을 듣게 하시려고 당신을 택하셨습니다.
"Then he said: 'The God of our fathers has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth.
15 당신이 보고 들은 일을 그분을 위해서 모든 사람 앞에 증언하게 하시려는 것입니다.
You will be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.
16 그러니 망설이지 말고 어서 일어나 그분의 이름을 부르며 세례를 받고 죄를 깨끗이 씻어 버리시오.'" And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.'

시편 117
1 너희 모든 백성들아, 야훼를 찬양하여라. 너희 모든 나라들아, 그를 송축하여라.
Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples.
2 그의 사랑 우리에게 뜨겁고 그의 진실하심 영원하시다. 할렐루야.
For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.

갈라디아 1:11-24
11 형제 여러분, 내가 전한 복음은 사람이 만들어 낸 것이 아니라는 것을 분명히 말해 둡니다.
I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up.
12 이 복음은 내가 사람에게서 받은 것도 아니고 배운 것도 아닙니다. 예수 그리스도께서 직접 나에게 주신 것입니다. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.
13 내가 전에 유다교 신자였을 때의 소행은 여러분이 다 들었을 터이지만 나는 하나님의 교회를 몹시 박해하였습니다. 아니 아주 없애 버리려고까지 하였습니다. For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.
14 나는 그 때 내 동족 중 동년배들 사이에서는 누구보다도 유다교를 신봉하는 데 앞장섰으며 내 조상들의 전통을 지키는 일에 있어서도 훨씬 더 열성적이었습니다. I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers.
15 그러나 하나님께서는 내가 나기 전에 이미 은총으로 나를 택하셔서 불러 주셨고
But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased
16 당신의 아들을 이방인들에게 널리 알리게 하시려고 기꺼이 그 아들을 나에게 나타내 주셨습니다. 그 때 나는 어떤 사람과도 상의하지 않았고
to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man,
17 또 나보다 먼저 사도가 된 사람들을 만나려고 예루살렘으로 가지도 않았습니다. 나는 곧바로 아라비아로 갔다가 다시 다마스커스로 돌아갔습니다. nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.
18 그리고 삼 년 후에 나는 베드로를 만나려고 예루살렘에 올라 가서그와 함께 보름 동안을 지냈습니다. Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days.
19 그 때 주님의 동생 야고보 외에 다른 사도는 만나지 않았습니다.
I saw none of the other apostles--only James, the Lord's brother.
20 내가 여러분에게 써 보내는 이 말이 거짓말이 아니라는 것은 하나님께서 알고 계십니다.
I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.
21 그 뒤에 나는 시리아와 길리기아 지방으로 갔습니다.
Later I went to Syria and Cilicia.
22 그래서 유다에 있는 그리스도의 교회들은 나를 직접 대할 기회가 없었습니다.
I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ.
23 그들은 다만 전에 자기네를 박해하고 그 교를 없애 버리려고 하던사람이 이제는 그 교를 전파하고 있다는 소문만 듣고 있었습니다. 그리고 그들은 They only heard the report: "The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy."
24 내가 하는 일을 두고 하나님을 찬양하였습니다.
And they praised God because of me.

루가복음 2:22-40
22 그리고 모세가 정한 법대로 정결 예식을 치르는 날이 되자 부모는 아기를 데리고 예루살렘으로 올라갔다. When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
23 그것은 "누구든지 첫아들을 주님께 바쳐야 한다" 는 주님의 율법에 따라 아기를 주님께 봉헌하려는 것이었고 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"),
24 또 주님의 율법대로 산비둘기 한 쌍이나 집비둘기 새끼 두 마리를 정결례의 제물로 바치려는 것이었다. and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair of doves or two young pigeons."
25 그런데 예루살렘에는 시므온이라는 사람이 살고 있었다. 이 사람은 의롭고 경건하게 살면서 이스라엘의 구원을 기다리고 있었다. 그에게는 성령이 머물러 계셨는데
Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
26 성령은 그에게 주님께서 약속하신 그리스도를 죽기 전에 꼭 보게 되리라고 알려 주셨던 것이다.
It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
27 마침내 시므온이 성령의 인도를 받아 성전에 들어 갔더니 마침 예수의 보모가 첫아들에 대한 율법의 규정을 지키려고 어린 아기 예수를 성전에 데리고 왔다.  
Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required,
28 그래서 시므온은 그 아기를 두 팔에 받아 안고 하나님을 찬양하였다.
Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
29 "주여, 이제는 말씀하신 대로 이 종은 평안히 눈감게 되었습니다.
"Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace.
30 주님의 구원을 제 눈으로 보았습니다. For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31 만민에게 베푸신 구원을 보았습니다. which you have prepared in the sight of all people,
32 그 구원은 이방인들에게는 주의 길을 밝히는 빛이 되고 주의 백성이스라엘에게는 영광이 됩니다."
a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel."
33 아기의 부모는 아기를 두고 하는 이 말을 듣고 감격하였다.
The child's father and mother marveled at what was said about him.
34 시므온은 그들을 축복하고 나서 아기 어머니 마리아에게 이렇게 말하였다. "이 아기는 많은 사람들의 반대를 받는 표적이 되어
Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against,
35 당신의 마음은 예리한 칼에 찔리듯 아플 것입니다. 그러나 그는 반대자들의 숨은 생각을 드러나게 할 것입니다." so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."
36 또한 파누엘의 딸로서 아셀 지파의 혈통을 이어받은 안나라는 나이 많은 여자 예언자가 있었다. 그는 결혼하여 남편과 일곱 해를 같이 살다가
There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,
37 과부가 되어 여든 네 살이 되도록 성전을 떠나지 않고 밤낮없이 단식과 기도로써 하나님을 섬겨 왔다. and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.
38 이 여자는 예식이 진행되고 있을 때에 바로 그 자리에 왔다가 하나님께 감사를 드리고 예루살렘이 구원될 날을 기다리던 모든 사람에게 이 아기의 이야기를 하였다.
Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.
39 아기의 부모는 주님의 율법을 따라 모든 일을 다 마치고 자기 고향 갈릴래아 지방 나자렛으로 돌아 갔다. When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.
40 아기는 날로 튼튼하게 자라면서 지혜가 풍부해지고 하나님의 은총을 받고 있었다. And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.
