이사야 9:2-7
1 어둠 속을 헤매는 백성이 큰 빛을 볼 것입니다. 캄캄한 땅에 사는 사람들에게 빛이 비쳐 올 것입니다. Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan--
2 당신께서 주시는 무한한 기쁨, 넘치는 즐거움이 곡식을 거둘 때의 즐거움 같고, 전리품을 나눌 때의 기쁨 같아 그들이 당신 앞에서 즐거워할 것입니다. The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.
3 당신께서는 그들이 짊어진 멍에와 어깨에 멘 장대를 부러뜨리시고 혹사하는 자의 채찍을 꺾으실 것입니다. 미디안을 쳐부수시던 날처럼, 꺾으실 것입니다.
You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the plunder.
4 마구 짓밟던 군화, 피투성이 된 군복은 불에 타 사라질 것입니다.
For as in the day of Midian's defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.
5 우리를 위하여 태어날 한 아기, 우리에게 주시는 아드님, 그 어깨에는 주권이 메어지겠고 그 이름은 탁월한 경륜가, 용사이신 하나님, 영원한 아버지, 평화의 왕이라 불릴 것입니다. Every warrior's boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. 6 다윗의 왕좌에 앉아 주권을 행사하여 그 국권을 강대하게 하고 끝없는 평화를 이루며 그 나라를 법과 정의 위에 굳게 세우실 것입니다. 이 모든 일은 만군의 야훼께서 정열을 쏟으시어 이제부터 영원까지 이루실 일이옵니다.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 주께서 야곱을 책망하시니 그 말씀이 이스라엘에 떨어지네. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

시편 96
1 새 노래로 야훼를 노래하여라. 온 세상아, 야훼를 노래하여라.
Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.
2 야훼를 노래하고 그 이름을 찬양하여라. 우리를 구원하셨다. 그 기쁜 소식 날마다 전하여라.
Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.
3 놀라운 일을 이루시어 이름을 떨치셨으니 뭇 민족, 만백성에게 이를 알리어라.
Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
4 높으신 야훼를 어찌 다 찬양하랴. 신이 많다지만 야훼만큼 두려운 신이 있으랴.
For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.
5 뭇 족속이 섬기는 신은 모두 허수아비지만 야훼께서는 하늘을 만드셨다.
For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
6 그 앞에 찬란한 영광이 감돌고 그 계시는 곳에 힘과 아름다움이 있다.
Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.
7 힘과 영광을 야훼께 돌려라. 민족들아, 지파마다 야훼께 영광을 돌려라.
Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
8 예물을 들고 하나님 앞에 나아가 그 이름에 어울리는 영광을 야훼께 돌려라.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts.
9 거룩한 광채 입으신 야훼를 경배하여라. 온 땅은 그 앞에서 무서워 떨어라.
Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.
10 이 땅을 든든하게 세우신 야훼 앞에서 "야훼가 왕이시다" 고 만방에 외쳐라. 만백성을 공정하게 심판하시리라. Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns." The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.
11 하늘은 기뻐하고 땅은 즐거워하며 바다도, 거기 가득한 것들도 다함께 환성을 올려라.
Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it;
12 들도, 거기 사는 것도 다 함께 기뻐 뛰어라. 숲의 나무들도 환성을 올려라.
let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy;
13 야훼께서 세상을 다스리러 오셨다. 그 앞에서 즐겁게 외쳐라. 그는 정의로 세상을 재판하시며 진실로써 만백성을 다스리신다. they will sing before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his truth.

디도서 2:11-14
11 하나님의 구원의 은총이 모든 사람에게 나타났습니다.
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
12 그 은총은 우리를 훈련해서 우리로 하여금 불경건한 생활과 세속적인 욕심을 버리게 하고 이 세상에서 정신을 차리고 바르고 경건하게 살게 해 줍니다. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,
13 그리고 위대하신 하나님과 우리 구세주 예수 그리스도께서 영광스럽게 나타나실 그 복된 희망의 날을 기다리게 해 줍니다.
while we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
14 그리스도께서는 우리를 위하여 당신의 몸을 바치셔서 우리를 모든 죄악에서 건져내시고 깨끗이 씻어 주셨습니다. 그래서 우리는 그분의 백성으로서 선행에 열성을 기울이게 되었습니다.
who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

루가복음 2:1-14(15-20)
1 그 무렵에 로마 황제 아우구스토가 온 천하에 호구 조사령을 내렸다. In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
2 이 첫번째 호구 조사를 하던 때 시리아에는 퀴리노 라는 사람이 총독으로 있었다.
(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
3 그래서 사람들은 등록을 하러 저마다 본고장을 찾아 길을 떠나게되었다.
And everyone went to his own town to register.
4 요셉도 갈릴래아 지방의 나자렛 동네를 떠나 유다 지방에 있는 베들레헴이라는 곳으로 갔다. 베들레헴은 다윗 왕이 난 고을이며 요셉은 다윗의 후손이었기 때문이다.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
5 요셉은 자기와 약혼한 마리아와 함께 등록하러 갔는데 그 때 마리아는 임신 중이었다. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
6 그들이 베들레헴에 가 머물러 있는 동안 마리아는 달이 차서
While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
7 드디어 첫아들을 낳았다. 여관에는 그들이 머무를 방이 없었기 때문에 아기는 포대기에 싸서 말구유에 눕혔다. and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 그 근방 들에는 목자들이 밤을 새워가며 양떼를 지키고 있었다.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
9 그런데 주님의 영광의 빛이 그들에게 두루 비치면서 주님의 천사가 나타났다. 목자들이 겁에 질려 떠는 것을 보고 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10 천사는 "두려워하지 말라. 나는 너희에게 기쁜 소식을 전하러 왔다. 모든 백성들에게 큰 기쁨이 될 소식이다. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
11 오늘 밤 너희의 구세주께서 다윗의 고을에 나셨다. 그분은 바로 주님이신 그리스도이시다.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
12 너희는 한 갓난아이가 포대기에 싸여 구유에 누워 있는 것을 보게 될 터인데 그것이 바로 그분을 알아보는 표이다" 하고 말하였다.
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13 이 때에 갑자기 수많은 하늘의 군대가 나타나 그 천사와 함께 하나님을 찬양하였다.
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 "하늘 높은 곳에는 하나님께 영광, 땅에서는 그가 사랑하시는 사람들에게 평화!"
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
15 천사들이 목자들을 떠나 하늘로 돌아 간 뒤에 목자들은 서로 "어서 베들레헴으로 가서 주님께서 우리에게 알려 주신 그 사실을 보자" 하면서
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
16 곧 달려 가 보았더니 마리아와 요셉이 있었고 과연 그 아기는 구유에 누워 있었다.
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
17 아기를 본 목자들이 사람들에게 아기에 관하여 들은 말을 이야기하였더니
When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,
18 목자들의 말을 들은 사람들은 모두 그 일을 신기하게 생각하였다.
and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
19 마리아는 이 모든 일을 마음 속 깊이 새겨 오래 간직하였다. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 목자들은 자기들이 듣고 보고 한 것이 천사들에게 들은 바와 같았기 때문에 하나님의 영광을 찬양하며 돌아갔다. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
